These website terms of use (“Terms of Use”) are entered into by and between you and ChatIBD.com (“ChatIBD”, “we”, “us” or “our”) and govern your access to and use of www.chatibd.com and any other websites that link to these Terms of Use. The term “you,” as used in these Terms of Use, means any person or entity who accesses or uses the Website. ChatIBD is operated as a University of Glasgow academic project.

We may revise and update these Terms of Use from time to time in our sole discretion. All changes are effective immediately when we post them, and your continued use of the Website following the posting of revised Terms of Use means that you accept and agree to the changes.

We reserve the right to terminate, alter, or amend the Website, any service or material we provide on the Website, in our sole discretion without notice. We will not be liable if for any reason all or any part of the Website is unavailable at any time or for any period.

The Service, software, design, content and associated intellectual property are owned by or licensed to the University of Glasgow and/or the operators of ChatIBD, unless otherwise stated. ChatIBD is operated as a University of Glasgow academic project. The Website and its contents, features and functionality are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret and other intellectual property rights laws. All rights not specifically granted herein are reserved.

These Terms of Use permit you to use the Website for your own professional or personal use only. You must not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, republish, download, store or transmit any of the material on our Website except for your own professional or personal use.

No right, title or interest in or to the Website or any content on the Website is transferred to you under any circumstances. Any use of the Website not expressly permitted by these Terms of Use is a breach of these Terms of Use and may violate copyright, trademark and other laws.

You may use the Website only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms of Use. You agree not to use the Website:

6. Eligibility And Professional Use

ChatIBD is intended for use by healthcare professionals and researchers with a professional interest in inflammatory bowel disease. By using the Service, you confirm that you will not use it as a patient-facing advice service or as a substitute for clinical care.

7. Clinical Use And Intended Use

ChatIBD is a clinician-facing guideline retrieval and summarisation tool intended to support healthcare professionals in accessing selected IBD guidance and related professional sources. It is not intended for use by patients or the general public. ChatIBD does not provide medical advice to patients, does not diagnose, prescribe, triage, monitor, or make autonomous clinical decisions, and must not be used as a substitute for professional judgement, source guideline review, local policy, or specialist advice where required.

Users remain responsible for all clinical decisions and for verifying outputs against cited source material. Outputs may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. Where outputs conflict with source guidance, local policy, or specialist advice, the latter should take precedence.

8. No Patient-Identifiable Information

Users must not submit directly identifiable patient information, including names, CHI/NHS numbers, dates of birth, addresses, contact details, hospital numbers, or free-text extracts from records that could identify an individual. If such information is submitted, we may delete, redact, or restrict processing of it where practicable.

9. No Reliance On Information Posted

To the extent permitted by applicable law: The information presented on or through the Website is made available solely for general information purposes. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or usefulness of this information. Any reliance you place on such information is strictly at your own risk. If an approved research program is available, participation is governed separately by the research consent form and research privacy notice, not by these Terms of Use alone.

Our Website may contain links to websites that are owned and controlled by third parties that are not within ChatIBD’s control, which are for your convenience only. The sites you can link to have their own separate terms and conditions and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review prior to using such sites. We operate the Website from the United Kingdom. If you choose to access the Website from outside of the United Kingdom, you are responsible for complying with applicable local laws. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for information regarding collection of personal data.

16. Severability Waiver

If any provision of these Terms of Use are held unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision is deemed severable from these Terms of Use and will not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions. These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of Scotland. The Scottish courts shall have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rights you may have under applicable law.
